How To Clean A Coffee Maker

“Good coffee comes with good beans”. That is what most coffee companies would say. Yes it is true but some other factors may make your coffee taste even better. One of which is the condition of your coffee maker. When we say this, it has to be regularly cleaned, at least twice a month. Hardened mineral oil from your coffee maker would greatly affect the taste of your coffee. Thus, giving you reason to clean it up on a regular basis.

Here are steps on how to clean your coffee maker.

Step 1: Gather all supplies needed

You would need 1/2 to 1 cup of vinegar depending on the size of your coffee maker. This is used since vinegar has a natural cleansing property that can detoxify your appliance. Or, another option would be to have a lemon juice as replacement if vinegar is not available. You would also need hot water – roughly double the amount of vinegar or lemon juice which you have prepared. Add to these would be dish rags and detergent.

Step 2: Start cleaning the outside area

First, wet the dish rag with a small amount of water with detergent and wash and rub the top area first since this has the most dust accumulation. Then work your way down to the sides and the bottom. While you are doing this, make sure that you unplug the appliance to prevent electrical accidents. You may also clean the cord for some dirt may have gotten lodged there too. After cleaning with soap and water, you should rinse off the area with a damp cloth with water and let it dry for five to ten minutes. The filter and its filter paper may also be washed thoroughly with soap and water. After which, reassemble the coffee maker and proceed to the next step.

Step 3: Mixture of water and vinegar

Pour the mixed vinegar or lemon juice onto your prepared solvent (water) and into the water reservoir of your coffee maker. Then, switch on the appliance and allow the solution to go through a cycle. Once done allow it to cool down for 15 to 20 minutes – the purpose of which is to allow the solution to stick into the coffee maker longer for better detoxification.

Step 4: Drain the solution

Next, pour the mixture into the drain. In an event that the coffee maker has not been cleaned for a long time, the above steps may be repeated.

Step 5: Rinse the coffee maker

Rinse the pot thoroughly with hot water; avoid using cold water since this may affect the heating mechanism of the pot. Again, the water reservoir should be filled with hot or warm water but now without vinegar or lemon juice. Finally, turn on the coffee maker and allow the cycle to run again. This step may be done twice or thrice depending on the smell that lingered in the coffee maker.

Afterwards, you ready to serve your visitors with a cup of hot, fresh, and clean coffee!
